This page seeks to explain what this website is about, why is was created, and what it hopes to achieve.

What is Dalian Dalian?

DalianDalian aims is to make living, working and studying in Dalian, a city in Northeastern China, easier. After all, we live here, too.

This site is apolitical and agenda-free. We have no intentions of putting our (or any) stamp on Dalian. We won't push one type of restaurant over another, though we will tell you which have the best food, service and prices, and we'll give you a space to do so, too.

This is the place to find out which bar has the beer you drink and the atmosphere you're looking for. Find a new job or a new flat. Just look skyward (relatively): the top menu is your constant guide. Our events list is updated early and often, and regular events will stay on the site as long as they're happening. We're all about information here, the more the better, so come and get yours.

A community is an organic thing that belongs to everyone and no one. Dalian's diverse communities aren't ours to manage. We just want everyone to have the chance to get together, have a good time and enjoy this fine city.

Why was it created, and what does it hope to achieve?

Dalian is not the easiest place to stay on top of news. National news, sure, that’s everywhere, but local news? Not so much, at least not in English. In early 2007 a few of us here started working to fix that.  We simply want to make finding information about Dalian easier, from a local delivery restaurant to finding a job.

All content on Dalian Dalian (unless specified otherwise) is licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivative Works licence.  That means our content is free to share unless you're using it to make money (work of the community for the community), attribute it back here, and don't change it (especially, take it out of context).

We use open-source software and content aggregation technology, that have reached a point where it’s possible to build quite a bit with little more than knowhow and spare time. Everyone doing this is a volunteer, each with our own reasons, each bringing a different skill set. It’s a fun project, and we’re trying to keep it that way.
