DalianDalian.com

Everything Dalian, For Everyone.

About Us and Sort of FAQ

The aim of DalianDalian.com is simple:  to make information about Dalian more accessible over the long term.  Accessible over the long term means including accurate, useful information while maintaining a high information to noise ratio.

Who Started This Website?

This website was founded by Rick Martin, Chris Amico and Alex Bowman, soon joined by Patrick Cloutier, united in the idea that good English language information about Dalian on the web is lacking, and that commercialising community based information is detrimental to a long term success.  Graeme, one of the best photographers on Flickr, was a quick supporter of the cause and has blessed this site with probably some of the best Dalian photoos ever taken.

Can I Get Involved?

By all means!  All members of the site have exactly the same means of posting content, posting comments and voting things onto the front page.  If you'd like to get involved with checking and moderating things send an email to webmaster@daliandalian.com.

My Company Has a Service I'd Like to Promote

Disclosure is important.  Don't make fake IDs and litter the forum with them promoting that service.  Posts are monitored and such behaviour would be unfortunate for all.  By all means add a listing for your company/service and post events to promote what you're doing.  Again, be honest and accurate.

Is This Site a Gossip Forum?

The site has a forum.  It also has blogs, events, listings, maps.  Gossip and rumour it is not.  A no hold bars forum is not what this site is about.  If there are strong unfounded/unbackable opinions or militant actions you'd like to express, go somewhere else.  If you have something informative or insightful to say (about Dalian) stay here.

This Site Must Occupy a Lot of Time

On the contrary.  If you're spending more than 20 minutes on this site per day, either reading or adding content, you're doing something wrong or we're doing somethng wrong.  Listings should be fast and easy to find, the front page should show you what's been selected as the best recent entries, adding content or comments should be fast enough.  If you find anything illogical or counterintuitive please emai webmaster@daliandalian.com.  The site should be efficient useful and maybe fun, not a full time job.

nice site idea, and needed

nice site idea, and needed i'd say. but it's bare bones as yet and still lacking a bit of a human face perhaps, not quite ready to replace anything else, nor even run alongside. however, i would be willing to do more to help such an enterprise become a sucess than i am over on DalianXpat. consider me as on-board, when the time comes. ----------- get tofu !

Communication

Hi, I arrived in March and wouldn't mind contributing articles and reviews. I think I've been on every page but can't see a link to do that. I go to restaurants and bars, get clothes made, shop for wine, DVDs, food, etc so there might be something useful I could offer. I am, probably, a tad older than many of your users (oosheroo) so my comments may be less relevant but I've visited a lot of bars and restaurants around the world so if a world-weary view of dalian would be of any use, just put a link in for submitting reviews of new places or tell me where it is if it already exists. Thanks

Thanks

Hi Percy, Thanks for your comment. Yes, any input, in fact as varied as possible, is welcome. All site users having the same demographic is not what we're about. We've yet to launch, at the moment I'm putting together the positioning of modules and boxes to make the site do what people want - mainly navigation and user friendliness. The blocks and structure are now all there, we just need to open it and make it user-friendly. This 'about' page is also a little out-of-date! You, and everyone that has registered an account, should receive an email in a couple of days when all bits are in order. We are very keen for feedback, as positive or negative as you like! Best, Alex
