Chinese Pianist Lang Lang to play in Dalian.

My friend Justin told me about this one. But to be honest, I have never heard of Lang Lang before. It just goes to show that even the biggest Chinese pianist is not really that big at all.  囧

UFO over Dalian?

And no, I don't mean that silly thing out in Kaifaqu. Here's a video showing what looks to be a UFO. The person who posted it on youtube writes:

The rather remarkable video below was reportedly taken from the witnesss living room window last month and shows a classically shaped flying saucer zooming across the sky during the daytime. The witness insists this footage is genuine.

Here's the youku link for anyone inside of China. The youtube video is below:

Buying Hockey Sticks in China

I saw Micah Sittig post about this today, and I'm sure that there will be some out there interesting to know this little tidbit.

It looks as if hockey sticks are available on Taobao.com (China's answer to ebay). Considering how hard hockey sticks are to find, this is certainly information worth sharing. I know Harbin sells hockey sticks. And there very well might be some corner of Dalian selling them too, but I haven't found it yet.

Anyway, a few hundred RMB and you might even be able to arrange a decent game now. Whip up a net with some PVC pipe and you're all set. See auction here.

Watch NHL Hockey in China (Revisited)

I wrote about this once over on Lost Laowai, but I think it's worth an update. There seems to be a lot of interest in watching NHL hockey online, and now it seems that you can on Hulu.com. The only catch is you need a US IP address. Now if you install HotspotShield.com's vpn, you'll be in the clear, and the site will stream hockey games easy as pie. There aren't a ton of games on there, but it's something at least. And I'm sure someone out there will find it useful. You can also browse this page to see the latest games that hulu has online: http://www.netvibes.com/chinatv

100 things I've learned about Dalian

I'll start. (add as many or as few as you want)

100. Always ask for "the book" when shopping at electronic city (it's a staff price list). 99. Never trust the green man when crossing the road. Keep your eyes peeled always, because traffic signals are merely suggestions. 98. Korean and Japanese restaurants and imported goods can be just as comforting as Western food. 97. Metro is a great place to shop, but you'll always spend about 3 times more than you planned. 96. I55 Coffee and Riviera Restaurant are both very overpriced.
