The End of a Dalian Era

Update:  The quiz is on again.

Few things in Dalian have been as consistent as the Dalian Wolfhounds Quiz Night on Sundays, which kicked off years ago in the Tin Whistle Pub, moved to Hopscotch, and has been based in Brooklyn since late 2008.

For many, as well as being "a chance to exercise your braincells in premises designed to kill them," it was a chance to catch up with a lot of others that varying schedules and week-day locations meant were all too often distant in the small city of Dalian.  That and a bottle of vodka/gin for the winners, and generous amounts of free beer and DVDs for the second and third placed teams.

But all good things come to an end. While the quiz night increasingly supported the Dalian Wolfhounds GAA team, working to raise funds to partially subsidise the team's kit and costs associated with events, the tole was increasingly focussed on one man to operate.  Mikey (co-founder of the Wolfhounds team) who's opted to have some personal time on Sunday evenings, and with a new baby daughter and work pressures, who can blame him?

Dalian Wolfhounds (men's team) came a respectable 3rd in the latest Asian Gallic Games losing to just Beijing and Hong Kong, and hosted the All-China games last year.  Every attendee of the quiz night can be proud of supporting a successful cause, as well as having a good time with generious prizes.  Let's hope, come winter, some other social activity comes along to compensate.

NOOOO! oh, no! sobs, weeps. Sunday nights in Dalian will be much the poorer. Can't Wayne hire a quizmeister? Good for him, good for us.
