Wireless hotspots
The Dalian Forum is a way of organising all the posts across the site into sections to make what you're finding faster. There are no 'forum posts' per-se, rather all posts, from wikis to questions to blogs to events to listings, are brought together here, and split by topic and location. We hope this is a useful way to find the Dalian information you're looking for quickly. If you want to make a post you can as a question, add an event, make a blog post, or add lots more types of things here. Return to the main forum page here.
Where to find wireless hot spots for the laptop around townI know of a few places to get online for free with a wireless laptop. I'll post the ones I know, each in its own reply, so people can comment on individual places. Keep adding them as they pop up, and I'll eventually pull everything into a guide post once there's a critical mass.

Starbucks at Olympic Square
I've never been impressed with the speed here, but I can reliably get online. It's a comfy location, too.

The Box
Next to Trust Mart, across the street from the University of Finance and Economics (DongCai), this place has a wireless connection, but it's miserably slow and nearly everything requires a proxy. It's not a place I'd go just to get online.
Pippa's Coffee Shop
The owners of this cafe on Heishijiao are friends of mine, so I hang out there a lot. It's wireless connection is fast, though it blocks more than my home connection. The place is right around the corner from Lisa Bar, next to a Taiwan breakfast restaurant.
UPDATE: Pippa's now closed
just an update for everyone, this cafe is unfortunately no longer open.
Qingniwa Bridge Starbucks
I think all Starbucks have wireless now, but I'm not sure. This one in the mall at Qingniwa Bridge has decent speed and doesn't block any more than the usual trouble makers (BBC, wordpress, blogspot, etc).
down with wires
there's a coffee placeon the 4th (i think ?) floor of Peace Plaza (Heping Guangchang) that has wireless.
also...some of the UBC coffees have them. or was it UCC, the almost identical rip-off/clone ? anyway, the one on Xinkai Road has it.
get tofu !
Any Amici Coffee Location
All Amici locations have decent Wifi.
