27 Square Clothes Market
Located just off 27 (erqi) square, this clothes and fabric market is likely the biggest in the city.
It has an almost infinite number of clothes stalls, shoes on one of the upper floors. But the most interesting area is probably the fabric market, where you can purchase many kinds of cloth by the square meter, and have it tailored to make clothes according to your specifications. Be warned, as it does require a certain ammount of bargaining skill.
Finding this market is a little tricky. If you approach 27 square from the adjacent 38 square, it's off in a 10 O'clock direction down the hill following a side street. Go through the first intersection and enter the building on the right through any entrance.
If that's confusing, please see our map. :)

$30 suit?
re: $30 suit
Yes, $30.
I haven't spoken to my brother recently, so I assume all is ok with those suits. I'd have likely heard back from him otherwise.
Not only are they cheap, but they are also tailor-made, so they are going to fit like a glove. My brother is a little big, about 115kg - so his suit was actually more expensive than usual (if you can believe that) because they needed a little more material.

I didn't find a suit for $30, but I think I could have.
I visited erqi square recently to see if getting a $30 suit was true. I walk into one of the clothing areas where materials are sold as well as tailor are found. I found one materials vendor selling fabric for 28 RMB / sq m. She said for my size (i'm 5 ft 10 in) it'd take about 3 square meters.
I visited my friends recommended tailor who quoted me 240 RMB for labor.
So if you do the math..
(3 x 28 RMB) + 240 RMB = 324RMB ~ $45
I ended up getting some Italian imported fabric for double the price, which is still a lot more than $30, but worth the price. So buying suits depends on the fabrics you select as well as labor. I'll report on overall satisfaction a bit later. I'm certain that a better bargaining chinese speaker could get the total cost down.
