Visiting and Relocation
Best place to meet newcomers?
Submitted by Wooddy on Wed, 2008-06-18 05:52.First, really get the impression it bonds English language and Chinese language information and that some time is put into writing something intelligent. Amazing photos too.
Then, down to business: I expect to arrive in Dalian around September, starting a JV with a local company. We already have a presence in China. But not in Dalian and I'd really like to get a group of buddies. I'm 35 and single, but sorry girls, not looking for a relationship as soon as I arrive. Nothing crazy, just a quite beer once or twice a week. Anywhere or any events to suggest?
Cheers, Nick

US Track Team to Train in Dalian
Submitted by Brian_Rapido on Thu, 2008-01-31 08:35.Some interesting news... the US track and field team will be training in Dalian prior to the olympics.
That they chose Dalian is probably not a suprise and I'd expect more teams to be here or nearby. Close to Beijing with probably the best summer weather and air, Dalian or Yantai/Qingtao are likely to be the choices of many teams. The article is here.

A bit of colourful contrast.
Simple, typical Dalian skyline. Sha He Kou district. The older houses here aren't actually 'communist' developments as, despite their aged look, they were build in the 90s well after Deng Xiao Ping's opening of China. And the new one's aren't structly capitalist, they were built with private funds but China remains a communist country.
Average Annual Weather and Sunlight
Submitted by admin on Tue, 2007-10-30 04:29.With the first snow of the year on Sunday, winter seems like it has returned. That's a good opportunity to check-out historic weather patterns from Dalian. This year has been a mild one, last winter particularly so. The winter of 2005/2006 was quite different, with a metre of snow falling overnight in early November. The weather is quite varied, but in general the summer is when it rains and the most cloud is present, the autumn sees wind come from the North, winter consists of pale blue skies, spring sees the cold Northern air get pushed back by warm breezes from the sea to the South. Below are some graphs describing Dalian's weather and seasons: read more »
